SAREES, the most beautiful Indian ethnic wear, are an essential part of every Indian Woman's BRIDAL trousseau and her wardrobe. The most beautiful 6 yards garment that can be draped on a woman which makes her look graceful, feminine, yet powerful, is the sari. Here are a few types of saris in various fabrics that every woman should own.

a) SILK SARIS

The most popular silk sarees are the Benares silks and the Kanjeevarams along with the Maharashtrian Paithani saris. These are traditionally hand woven and dyed in the most beautiful colors and made from the finest silks. Apart from these the Chanderi and Mysore Silk Sarees are beautiful too.

These saris are a good choice for the bridal trousseau along with her lehenga.  Art Silk/ Bhagalpuri silk sarees are available too, they are like replicas of real silk sarees; made from synthetic fabrics and hence are priced much lower than genuine silk sarees.

b) BANDHEJ/ BANDHANI AND LEHERIYA SAREES
These Sarees are traditionally made in Rajasthan and North Gujarat and are popularly worn during navratra and garbha festivals where men and women gather to play dandiya every evening.

Bandhani Sarees are beautiful in their design, fabric and other embroidery works done on the fabric and the fabric is dyed in such a way that it resembles waves (leheriya) and polka dots.

c) NON-VIOLENT SILK OR TUSSAR SILK OR KOSA SILK  SARIS

These silk sarees are pure silk saris too, but the difference is that the cocoons are boiled after the silk worm leaves it. In traditional silk production, the cocoons are boiled with the larvae inside them.

This is also called Ahimsa silk. :) Hence Tussar Silk Sarees are a good option for people practising ahimsa or veganism/ vegetarianism. These are sometimes called Raw Silk / khadi silk sarees too.

d) COTTON SARIS
Cotton sarees are the most comfortable, skin and environmental friendly sarees as they are made from plant grown material. They are the popular choice for working women as they can be draped with dignity and the fabric is such that it remains in place and is also light weight and easy to carry.

Pure Cotton Sarees are good for Indian climate. Also, cotton mixed with silk fabric sarees called sico (cotton silk) sarees are made to improve the luster of cotton fabric sarees, along with these Bengal Cotton Sarees are quite popular too.

Traditionally, cotton sarees were hand made and identified according to the geographical area where they were made.

A few of them are Pochampally, Gadwal, Benares, Sambalpuri, Venkatagiri, etc. cottons named after the geographical area in which they are made by weavers traditionally.
